72 Scamp - Rear end swap

When I purchased the car the rear was a 7 1/4 with 2.76 gears. It's being upgraded to a 8 3/4 rear with disk brakes and 3.23 sure-grip differential.

Some general pictures of the new housing.

The shock plates were in need of some TLC
The shock plates got a good cleaning
And some re-threading.
The thread on one was
so bad it needed a
7/16-20 the other is 1/2-20
Then a couple of coats of Rustbullet And finally some black paint

Brake calipers

Initially I was going to rebuld the existing calipers but factoring in powder coating it was cheaper to get re-mans
Got the rear calipers powder coated to match the fronts

Here is a 742 case carrier with a 3.23 sure-grip that I picked up for forbbodiesonly.com. It's needed some cleaning
My daughter was more than happy to help with the cleaning

I finally got around to pulling the axles, installing the center and buttoning everything up.

The big day. Swapping out the rear ends. Since I was doing this solo I left the wheels on and rolled the old rear out from under the car. Then I moved the wheels onto the new rear and rolled that into place under the car. The Sure-grip rear didn't want to turn, making positioning it a real pain.
The old 7 1/4 rear. Since The empty rear end area.
The driveshaft before
getting shortened by 2.25 in.
The new "rolling" rear The new 8 3/4 installed
The new 8 3/4 installed New driveshaft. The old DS couldn't shortened
as it was already sleeved internally
